Ashmore Estates has long been known as a haunted building. The building was for 20 years off-limits to the general public. Nestled in the small town of Ashmore in Central Illinois, Ashmore Estates has been seemingly abandoned for years. The Almshouse shares tales of their former residents who refuse to leave, keeping a watchful eye over the owners and tracking those who dare to venture in!
This 3 floor massive building built in 1916 was established on the County Poor Farm, to help those who had little or nothing. Pictures from the cemetery are available here. Poor farm residents resided there until 1956 when the building was turned into a house for the mentally disabled.

When it finally closed its doors for good in 1987,

some restless spirits chose to stay behind forever calling the estates their home. These apparitions have been seen walking through the building and captured on tape…allowing a chosen few a glimpse into their past!!! As you open your ears and listen…..these walls can talk!

Many have visited the site illegally and experienced the haunt first hand. Now you can experience this 'massively haunted' site for your self. The new owners have made the site available in many ways. There are public overnight in the building. Enjoy the opportunity to spend the night in the Haunted Ashmore Estates. The event is called Night of Insanity. During October the estates is be turned into a haunted entertainment event In 2008 it was themed "Macabre Manor". We also offer Flashlight TOURS year round. Paranormal Investigations: In the first year and a half under the new ownership Ashmore Estates underwent 13 paranormal investigations. The most famous groups to do investigations in the building in this time period were Haunted Times Magazine - Internationally renowned paranormal investigator "Christopher Moon" and The International Society for Paranormal Investigations. We were also visited by Robert Reese (the WCIA Champaign, IL Chanel 3 weatherman who reports on local Halloween events) who was present for one of the investigations. He made a news segment that aired just before Halloween 2006. The video is on youtube.com.

We do offer overnights. Our rates and specifics are below:

Standard rates for paranormal groups up to 4 hours (plus set-up time) are $50 per person. 2 person minimum.
Overnight - The standard of a minimum of 10 persons paid is required to do an overnight in Ashmore Estates. 12 hour rates are $70 per person - this requires payment for 10 persons. Investigators can sleep in the building if desired (bring sleeping bag and air mattress or foam pad - the building has concrete floors on all three levels. If you desire to do an overnight but do not have the required 10 persons please call 217-512-9499 to see if you can get an exception for your group.
To get exclusive* use of the building - minimum payment for 10 persons is required.
All participants must execute a hold harmless agreement prior to entrance.
There are no refunds on events that have been scheduled. If you need to you may change the date of your event to an open date.

*Otherwise we may have others accessing the building for tours or other events during the same time period. We offer tours daily and have them whenever the tour group wants to schedule.
